Day 15 - 15 days remaining

To avoid writer's block, at the end of a writing day, regardless of how wiped-out you are, start the next day's work. Type a few sentences, even a few words. Even if what you noted is dead wrong, you've given yourself a place to start.

And as we start into the third week...

...pat yourself on the back for surviving the "week 2" hurdles! Well done everyone! Today's word count is also something of note: 25K! After today, if you've been keeping up, know that you're half way to the finish line!

How's everyone doing? For some Nano Writers, today a good day to catch up or even better, get ahead! Excerpts? Questions? Tips about how to beat writer's block?

You can do this! Just keep writing!

I hit 35k just a few moments ago due to friendly competition. I have promised myself that I would hit at least 39k before I sleep. :D This is just because it is fun...

And the realisation that my muses have pulled a fast one on me. Apparently the Nano I have been doing for the past three years is merely book 1. We are going to finish book 2 now. :D I think I'll enjoy this mad ride.

And did I mention that I cannot stop typing like a madwoman now? MUAHAHAHA!

I hit 37k which is more than what I expected. 2k words in 2 hours, that's always great. XD

Woo, just passed 30k. :D

Very happy with where it's going, Craig is sulking a little, but generally accepting of my wisdom, and we've just spent 2k sorting through a bunch of magical equipment that once belonged to Andrew's grandfather. Still working on bringing Craig and Andrew closer, and I think I'm getting there, which is nice. So yes. :D

25,331. Despite the fact that we had my partner's parents over, & I was expecting to have trouble getting any in at all.

I am trying to work out the next plot wrinkle - I'm halfway there, but I can't work out if I'm going to separate my main characters for the weekend, or have them both go on each other's trips. Lin would kind of like to go along with Stuart, but I think Stuart's a bit antsy about his trip and would maybe prefer to be alone. (I think he's being a bit less than truthful with himself about his feelings about the person he's visiting...)

I haven't really been able to write this weekend. A combination of being sick, looking at potential houses and preparing for a presentation. Then again, I'm still a good way ahead so it's not so bad.

Well done everyone! I finished the day on 29007 and the story seems to be moving along at the right pace. There's a lot more dialogue in this year's novel, and as a rule it's something that I really don't enjoy writing. However my plot involves a police investigation, so the characters talking to each other is something that I can't avoid :D Maybe it's not so bad after all.

I've been a bad mommy this weekend. Had trouble focusing, didn't spend a lot of time with my newborn baby book.

Still doing okay in terms of word count, but the curve is starting to catch up with me. I'm only doing about 1200 a day (and while I'm ahead in terms of word count now, eventually it'll catch up to me). We're at 32k.

Curtis didn't like spending time alone in the house. He preferred to be outdoors, in the garden or among the trees. He liked the way nature arranged herself, how the natural order of things was chaotic and still managed to be comforting. He found peace in the outside world, hoping to capture enough of it to bring back home with him.

He didn't mind toiling away in the fields for one more summer, one last stretch of fall before his initiation. In fact, in a little over a month he'd be done with tending crops until he took his place as an adult if he decided he wanted to channel his energies into growing and tending or harvesting and storing. At present, Curtis was young enough to be granted the liberty of having no idea what he wanted. He could simply enjoy life as it unfolded, no pressure on discovering a path or a talent.

He was certain he had a talent; he just hadn't figured it out yet.

Crossed the 30k line today, despite having picked a bad time to get addicted to the crossword puzzles in my college newspaper. I'm still writing on the other side of the chapter that I'm stuck on, but I might backtrack and go write the prologue that I wrote two paragraphs of and then saved for later if I need a change of focus.

In fact, that's my tip for fighting writer's block: Know event Y happens for certain after event X but don't know what goes between? Go ahead and write event Y and inspiration for what went between may come to you.

Eloise looked quickly back and forth between the queen and Kit. “Kit’s the queen’s cousin?”

“No,” Samuel said. Ironic, he thought, that I for once have an area of expertise above that of my crew chiefs, and it’s simply knowledge of nobility and family trees. He didn’t realize that particular area of knowledge, drummed into his head by his parents and their social climbing ambitions, would have any particular use. “Kit’s the king’s cousin. Distant relations, to be sure, but there’s Ashworth family blood in Kit and her siblings.”

George turns a sharp, startled glance in his direction. “That why you nearly sent her off right after we left? Because of her family connections?”

“Hardly, George. Consider it a mistake derived from my unfamiliarity with airship culture and what’s acceptable for women to do aboard airships.” He hadn’t intended to be overheard, but apparently he hadn’t spoken quietly enough. It was a small condolence that George, communication master though he was, hadn’t either.

“If that was an apology, Holford,” Kit said clearly, pausing her conversation with the queen to respond, “it’s a bit late. But I shall assume you have learned your lesson and will not make that mistake again.” Then, as smoothly as if she hadn’t said anything, Kit turned back to the queen.

I only did about 600 words today which is what I expected since I had other plans for the day. This puts my total to 30,665. I'm still ahead so that's good.
