 Who'd doing NaNoWriMo this year and what are your  projects for November?

Last year I deconstructed and re-wrote an original series Battlestar Galactica fanfic I wrote back in the early 89's. This year I'm planning on a historical fiction story called Tales from The Silk Road.

I even got the husband into writing NaNo this year. He's doing a Weird West piece he's had an idea for for a long time. Frankly I'm surprised I could talk him into a lot of stuff over the past few months. I have effectively dragged his antiquated tail and most of his technology into the 21st century after many many years of him digging his heels in with denial that he needed to join the rest of the human race. I even got him onto Facebook. I never even prayed that could happen.

o/ I'm trying to write an angel/demon au fic idea I had a couple of years ago. I've neeearly finished doing my outline, though I'm meh on the middle part. I'm not sure if it'll reach 50k, but we'll find out, haha.

I've decided not to do it this year. I've loved doing it in the past (10 years! Wow!) but the pressure is beginning to get to me. I don't have inspiration like I used to and some days I just stare at the monitor and wonder WTF.

i have no plan beyond a vague "write 50k this year!!" so on the 1st of the month i'll just open a new document, put my fingers on the keyboard, and see where that takes me.

I was going to work on original fic this year but I've really left it too late to plan properly, so I'm going to write fic. Again. But I'll enjoy that!

I have a baker's dozen of wips to play with. Three are failed Nano attempts. Most are projects I've spent time worldbuilding and have a vague plot. It would be great if I could focus on one and get it completed, but based on the past this isn't going to happen.
My current plan is to write 1-3 days on a wip, then switch over to the next wip that catches my interest. I will repeat the process until I hit 50,000 new words or until the end of the month.
I have everything saved to the same yWriter project folder, so it should be simple to keep track of the starting # and ending #.

I'm doing it, and I've a vague idea. It's space opera, and has a blurb and a title. A couple of named characters. Absolutely no outline.

I know that feeling. I've been trying to figure out my character names. Up until last night I didn't even have one for my MC. Now she has one but I think it's lame. Maybe I should make a game out of seeing how long I can go without having to refer to any of my characters by name. I'm beginning to think that I chose the wrong story to do for this month.

It is nice to know that I can still fall back on my scifi fanfic I did last year of worse comes to worse.

You can actually do that during NaNo? It's ok to jump from one to the other and back again? That gives me hope. Maybe I'll work on the scifi story until I can get my historical fiction fleshed out more.

Don't be envious. I've had this idea for over 35 years, and I've been working on/off it for the past fifteen.

Ahh. I see now. I've only had this idea for my Silk Road story since February of this year. I have some scenes I've played out in my mind and the notes I took while going through the exhibit, but that's about all I have. It took me a few days to fins a coherent timeline for Ancient Greece as well as the whole Silk Road online. I'm thinking I need to do more work on the historical bits before I continue.

Then again, another part of me says "It's FICTION! Don't be so anal about accuracy! The history part can come later."

The more I think about it, the more I realize I'm pantsing this story of mine. Eeeek!

That seems to be my problem as well. Not enough planning. Sometimes I question if I need all that prep. Then I look at my current WIP and I'm embarrassed to think I'm going to mess this up just because I don't know the historical parts and it's a part of the world I know absolutely nothing about.

Best of luck to you. I have a middle but no beginning or end yet. The end I may have a clue about, but the beginning... I'm lost.

Officially, probably not. But... if I combine everything at the end and call it an anthology of short stories, it might work.

Google name generators. There's a ton of them out there. Some are even specific to Harry Potter, LoTR and other fandoms. Good luck with your story.

I don't see what it really matters just so long as you write, but that's just my thinking.
