NaNoWriMo 2010 - Day 7

Day 7 - 23 days remaining

You never have to change anything
you got up in the middle of the night to write.

Today brings us to the end of the first week, Nano Writer! Your word count should be better than 11,667... How did you do?

The weekend is often a good time to catch up. Don't let yourself fall too far behind the daily word count! Remember, this is not the time to throw anything out!

This is also the night when in the US, we set our clocks back an hour. What would you do (or plan to do) with an extra hour, Nano Writer? For me, I've finally arrived at the scene where the protagonist has come face to face with the story's antagonist, he just doesn't know it yet. I have no choice but to keep writing to see how it all comes out ;-)

Whatever your plans, remember to keep writing!

I'm around 1500. I have had plenty of chances to write today. I blame the fact that Back to the Future was on ABC family

I do what I can, sadly this month is the last month of school, so, final works are killing my precious time to write. But, even if I'm around only 2000 words, I'm going to take the weekend to write all what I can!

(here there isn't change in the hours *snif* I could be so happy with an extra hour to write)

My plans... write, write and write, with a lot of coffee and music.

(Sorry for my bad english, I can read and understand it very well, but when I write it...)

We set our clocks forward an hour for summer time a month ago. *sighs* I want my hour back!

I'm in the middle drag, the bit where you discover that your plan is great for plot, but you've kind of skimped on the emotional arcs. So, I'm writing and planning at the same time, with some success. I'm not behind, anyway.

22,348. Halfway point is totally reachable today. \o/ Which is utterly baffling to me because I didn't do anywhere near as well with Nano last year.

I spent the entire day out yesterday. Went out with my kids, watched a movie, went to the library, all that sorts of stuff. Going to get back to the grind today, once I can settle my brain enough to write.

And I woke up at 6am, stupid time change.

Yesterday I did some shopping, wrote a lot of words, and worked.

I made it to 29k last night, and hit 30 this morning! I have almost beaten my best attempt at NaNoWriMo, which was last year, where I hit 32k about 5 days before the end. O_o

As of right now--not having written anything today--I'm at 12,500. With a little effort I'll get to 2 days ahead today! (My 3 days ahead by Sunday plan fell through a bit.)

currently at 17362 and looking forward to a productive day ... hoping to wrap up Act 1 by tomorrow night (although that might be too optimistic)

what am i doing with an extra hour? writing of course!

from an online chat with Kallisti and the engineering team of g0ddesses.net:

D: i just wanted to double-check, i didn't get the notification about postponing the emergency emergency board meeting. did you send it out?

Kallisti: me?

D: yes. as far as i know you're the only acting interim interim CEO

Kallisti: oh I didn't realize it was up to me. should i do it now?

D doesn't like what Kallisti just said

D: no, don't bother. 24 hour notice is required, so it's too late at this point. looks like the emergency emergency board meeting is going to be tomorrow afternoon. and i'll be flying back from DC, so you'll have to do it without me.

Kali whispers: you really aren't making a very good first impression

I'm catching up! 10,033 words, and my main character is rolling behind tables to avoid bullets, sword in hand (and yes, I did write the part where he unsheathed it yesterday, I was just so sleepy I didn't remember it). It's an action scene - in the second chapter! This chapter alone is 6,035 words long. O_o might have to cut it in two later on...

I have caught up! Now at 11,867 words.

I wish I'd had the extra hour, unfortunately we change clocks in October.

But actually I've had enough time, I just keep making excuses about getting started each day.

Congratulations to everyone who made it this far, and huge admiration for those who are already over 20,000 words.

I finished Day 7 on a total of 12685, so I'm pretty happy even though I was just over 15000 at this time last year. Unfortunately the extra hour here in the UK was last weekend :( Oh well....

Aaaaand... I made it! 12,176 words! That's 3,424 words I wrote today. And I don't even have the advantage of Daylight Saving Time giving me an extra hour, because it's summer in my country.

My main character kicked ass and took names, and in the middle of being congratulated, a man on fire suddenly showed up. I'm on a roll! This also looks like a good spot to take a breath in. My eyes are burning.

I'm still working on my minimum word count for today. Apparently when I tell myself "I'm going to quit procrastinating and get this finished right now," I mean "I'm going to sleep for the rest of the day." I'm currently at 10,664 words so far, and I haven't even gotten to the 'important part' yet where my main character finally agrees to take on a case for the police. Argh.

I got 2116 words in today, for a total of 14523. I didn't quite hit my goal of 15k by midnight today, but I've still got about 45 more minutes to write, so who knows, I might manage it after all.

Spent my extra hour sleeping. I had a great day of writing Saturday, not so great on Sunday. My wordcount is hovering around 15k.

Researching typewriters was the highlight of my day. I found the exact model I pictured; describing it added a nice boost to the wordcount.

The typewriter itself is an ancient thing of beauty. A vintage typewriter that works like it's brand new, mostly due to Rafael's tinkering and the upkeep that he taught Reese to perform herself. The body of the typewriter is a bit dinged and bruised, but it functions so well that the cosmetic blemishes are easily ignored.

The keyboard is comprised of round keys, white letters on black circles ringed with silver. The A key is particularly worn, as well as the spacebar on which there is a clear worn spot from the pressure of someone's thumbs always resting there.

It's a frontstroke typewriter, the type bars arranged in a semi-circle, like a waiting audience at an amphitheatre. It's noisy, but the sort of noise that soothes Reese as she's typing. She can set a metronome to the rhythm of her words. She works on a ¾ time signature, a waltz of literature. Sometimes it's a bit more syncopated; it depends entirely on the prose.

Yay, got to 15K with about 5 minutes to spare! For whatever reason, dialogue goes much quicker for me than action scenes do.

12721 -- sort of a slow day today, that ate into my lead by a few hundred words, but I know where it's going tomorrow, so that's something. ^^

the funny thing is my day featured a very kallisti-like screwup :-) fortunately when i asked 'what can i do to make it up to you?' the answer was 'i sure would like some snickerdoodles'. as penances go, it was a remarkably pleasant one :-)

I'm ahead for once. I managed to bang out 2700 or so words to gain a nice lead. It wasn't easy.
