Today's word count is 16,670! And it's the beginning of our second weekend - the second of four this month. Weekend writing can be a good opportunity to catch up on your word count or pull ahead if the muse is kind! So I'll leave you to it!

I am behind on my word count goal, but ahead on the minimum (for day 9, I haven't written for day 10 yet) - it's a really weird and uncomfortable place to be, since normally I'm a couple days ahead of the minimum by now :(

On the other hand my protagonist now has an interesting piece of evidence for the person who killed her uncle, can definitely rule two people out as killers, and her cousin was either involved with it or has some other horrible secret. (I can't decide whether or not she's a red herring; if she ends up being a red herring I'm changing her last name to Clupea. Actually, I might even if she's not...)

So, yesterday, I was going to stop at 20k. I even got to 20k and took a break.

Then somewhere, another 4k just magically appeared and I don't know from where. O_o

I'll probably write more when I get home from errands. I'm just kinda "okay." at this moment about my writing. Because I wasn't expecting those 4k to dhow up. Oh well.

WORDS. Apparently they hate me today. It was so hard to write. D: But I still managed to get another 1720 done and now I'm at 20,810! :D Finished that chapter at last, so now I can move on to the werewolves again. :D They are going to wander up Bristol way and discover both it and Cardiff are BURNINATING OMG. *likes burning down cities* :D

Basically, Roy and Trev got drunk, played pub billiards*, and ended up in bed together because something something zombies something something idkw. Old man hangovers ftw.

* I have only a passing knowledge of billiards, let alone pubs. I am better at writing poker games. XD This, however, is my favourite line from my daft attempt to write a pub billiards match: "Roy pocketed the second ball as if it was an act of revenge some forty years too late." (lol. XD)

Up to 21,670 and that's enough for today; yesterday was so huge that I could barely get started on words today.

But I did advance the main plot, and I have to keep reminding myself: the story doesn't have to be done in 50K. Average for an MS in my genre is 80-100K, so it's not a huge deal that I'm not already starting to stare down the climax. I can get there in my own good time.

2,600 words so far for today. 35,200 words total. I'm hoping to write a few thousand more before long; normally the weekly Wrimo meeting at the university helps but this week was sort of the opposite lol.

Hanging around 12k at the moment.

Stalled out. Hated the lack of direction my story suffered. Felt like I'd told the story before.

So I stopped telling it. I'm starting fresh today. I'm keeping the prose I wrote previously; I'm recycling the characters and aging them a bit, putting them in a different setting with different rules. With some tweaking I may be able to use some of it and starting at 0 on day 10 is a horrifying proposition.

I feel much better about this new direction and I think the story (and I) will benefit.

Took the day off, so I'm still hovering around at 30k. Hoping the 11th will give me a fair few thousand words though.
