NaNoWriMo 2012 - Day 13

Day 13 - 17 days remaining

The land of literature is a fairy land to those who view it
at a distance, but, like all other landscapes, the charm fades
on a nearer approach, and the thorns and briars become visible.

— Washington Irving

The word count today is 21,671! Just that and a word about details, Nano Writer! They say the Devil is in the details but I say it's where the story comes alive. Add a dash of detail and your bland becomes grand! Your character might drive a red car but if he gets behind the wheel of a 2005 Black Cherry RX-8 Mazda, he'll be going places. And as a bonus, you'll reap a bit of plot or characterization as well as a handful of extra words for your count.

Questions? Comments? Cool detail to share? It's all good! So keep writing!

Hey, yeah, halfway there! :D Up to 26,466 now!

Not entirely happy with this chapter though. I'm not entirely sure it works, and half of it is spent in astral realms and it's just ... weird. WELL. It makes sense in the story, and I suppose something had to happen to keep my werewolves busy, but, man, I did not want this, even if it was kind of necessary to help one of them recover. But my point remains. It's a bit boring to read. I'll either have to make it not!boring through revision or rewriting. We'll see once December comes.

I feel a little better about it today, now that I've had a think about it. I don't think it's as terrible, and I don't think I'm going to need another sequel after this one. I think I've been able to find a catalyst that won't involve "...and another several years later' kind of break within the narrative arc. Because I ... I don't feel like doing that. Perhaps yesterday was my week 2 slump. :P

I also had half an idea about having IDK letters/diary entries from one of my MCs between the chapters, but we'll see. He writes the prologue that way, and IDK, it might not be a bad idea to have his thoughts from the future helping to structure what's going on.
