It's Day 22 for Nano Writers's Let's Build a World. Read over - Revisiting Geography - from Stephanie Bryant's 30 Days of Worldbuilding. Maps and notebooks today and of course today's exercise:
Today, revisit your geography. If you haven't checked out some of the geography-related sites, do so. If there is one aspect you think will be important, check up on it and make sure you're on the right track.
Redraw the map if you need to. Write in place names and any additional map key icons (little trees for forests, upside-down V's for mountains, etc.). Draw in your roads and rivers (remember: blue is always water on a map), and your cities, towns, and settlements.
Some additional map links that may be helpful:
Topographic Map Symbols - from the U.S. Geological Survey site
History of Cartography - good overview and links
World Atlas - lots of maps (including outlines)!
Have you found your story yet, Nano Writer? Or are you still lost in the woods? Don't give up hope! Come back tomorrow for the next installment!
