Today is “Back Up Your Novel Again Day.” So back up those words, Nano Writers!

And today’s word count is 23,338! That’s also 23,338 reasons why you need to invest a minute or two to save, copy, zip, box, cloud, stick, mail, post or redundancize your novel-to-be. Because losing your work is a hurt you don’t need and peace of mind is priceless.

I lost 2/3 of my novel on Dec. 3 last year because I failed to regularly back up in multiple places.

Haaaahaha, even after distracting myself all over the yuletide posts today, I still managed to write 3.5k. I'm not going to hit the 50k before the sign-up deadline on Saturday like I'd wanted to, but seriously, I'm pretty much 5k ahead of where I was last year. \o/

Pfffft. My last word of this part is '...What?' XDDDD

I've discovered my MC really can't stop her mind from buzzing around the place when she's in the middle of the fight. But she's only just started - still, I don't think that's going to change any time soon.

My MC and my other main character are also determined to act adorable towards each other, no matter what. XDD Though, considering how my MC is finding out that her situation is even worse than she thought... (And it's only going to continue downhill from there. >D)

Finally I'm all better, and now I'm making sure to wrap up warm always, even if the weather looks all right. :D

I wanted to try to get 35,000 before I slept, but then I got distracted, and my wrist took the chance to relax enough it began aching. ^^; Never a good idea for me to push on when it's loosening up like that, so, I am stopped. Like a responsible person! ...Kinda. XD (Also I have a flute lesson tomorrow, I need flexibility! XD)

Last word of the day? 'either'. And I've backed up to three places, one of which is email, so even if all my hardware goes down I should be okay. ^^

I might have either 33,499 or 33,478. I don't know which; my Excel spreadsheet tells me one thing and my master document tells me another. Either way, I have still not bested Mr. Jerk (although I did participate in, and win by more than double, my first word war today!).

But I have gotten past the part where I hate my story more than anything else, and I did it today of all days: I didn't sleep last night, and couldn't nap today (too bright), and spent the entire day feeling just this side of dead.

"Just This Side of Dead"--now that would be an interesting story title!

And now, I am for bed.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost a good chunk of your novel last year :-( and yes, using a couple of different methods is good insurance.

Hope you made a note of the cool title in a notebook! And what you might try to double check your word count is to use the validator on your "Edit novel" page on the NNWM web site. The validator link says "I am ready to validate my novel" in red letters which bring up a pop-up window that you paste a copy of your novel-in-progress into and it will come back with your "official" word count to date. The WC won't be official until 11/25 so until then it's a great way to get an accurate count and to avoid sticker shock later.
