In a portrait, you have room to have a point of view.
The image may not be literally what's going on, but it's representative.

Hey! It's a contest!

Last August, Cover Up! was announced to help celebrate the 75 days countdown to NaNoWriMo. Now that November 1 is less than 26 days away, it's time to see those covers!

For the benefit of our new members, here are the contest rules:

  • Create a book cover. Ideally, the artwork should be for or about your 2009 NaNoWriMo novel.

  • All images should be resized to comply with NaNoWriMo's posting rules. In other words, your finished book cover should be no bigger than 230 x 300 pixels and less than 50kb in size. Artwork that exceeds these limits will be disqualified.

  • Entries for contest consideration should be uploaded to the appropriate Contest Entry Post (hint: that's this post you're reading right now) anytime during the week of October 5 through midnight October 11 (another hint: that's now - this week). Each Nano Writer member may post up to three (3) book covers for consideration. Please do not leave feedback or comments for any of the artwork until the winner of the contest is announced on October 16.

  • The following information should be included for each entry:

    member's name:
    working title of novel:
    working genre:

  • Please note: any artwork that could be considered to be adult in nature (including images or text that may be offensive or hurtful) should be posted behind a cut with additional warnings added to the header so that members may decide for themselves whether or not they wish to view the work.

  • The winner will be selected by random drawing and will receive:

A new Levenger Circa Compact Translucent Notebook

More information about the notebook is available from the Levenger website.

In addition to the notebook, the winner's artwork will be reproduced and punched so that it may be used as an inner cover for the Circa notebook!

So let's see those covers, Nano Writers! Please comment to this post and show us what your NaNoWriMo novel's all about!

And if you don't have a cover - now's a good time to put one together! For inspiration, Nano Writers might check out the following sites:

Book Covers - a site "dedicated to the appreciation of brilliant book cover design."

The Book Cover Archive - another site "for the appreciation and categorization of excellence in book cover design."

Book designer Alan Jones takes us through his journey - a great read about the cover design process for the book: The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill.

Brief instructions about how to use
Tiny Pic to create a book cover can be found here.

So what are you waiting for Nano Writer? Let your right brain strut its stuff! Show us the cover art for next great NaNoWriMo novel!

It works. Agh, can't figure out why it doesn't work with me. I always end up getting to a page with POST missing or something. The computer-fu is weak in this one.

(Not meaning to break the rules, just trying to help.)

Your cover is 320x292, the size for the contest would have to be 230x300. Managed to mix up the numbers, maybe? If you have a graphics program, try opening a blank canvas of the right size, c/p your cover as a new layer and use the bounding box to shrink until it fits?
