Day 20 - 10 days remaining

To tend, unfailingly, unflinchingly, towards a goal, is the secret of success.

- Anna Pavlova

As to what that goal is...

As writers, we have many goals. To tell a story, certainly. To entertain, perhaps. To learn something about ourselves, always.

But as NaNoWriMo writers, our primary goal this month is to tell a story by writing 50,000 words in 30 days. Some say that we're crazy. Some days it's hard not to think that they might be right.

But we do it anyway. And we do it by writing every day, every week, word by word, sentence by sentence, unfailingly, unflinchingly, trying our best to hit our daily word counts until we cross that finish line!

Today's goal is 33,333! Excerpts? Questions? Comments? It's all good!

And remember... keep writing!

Today's excerpt was written in the wee hours of the morning today. It reads:

As much as she had seen a lot of things, seeing naked people making love still unnerved her, part of which was because she was a virgin herself. She knew how it all worked, of course, but her virginity was still intact. Unlike her siblings, the sexual act did not interest her, at least not enough to commit fully. It was often a point of amusement for Anra.

Didn't feel like writing last night, but I got words in anyway. Tonight I'm probably going to binge again and get the rest of it written.

I did terribly todayyy

I did well for three or four days straight, then did okay yesterday, and today I wrote a grand total of 740 words. :(

I meant to be in bed by three (it's 3:20 now) but I think I'll stay up to get a few hundred words' head start on tomorrow.

Umm.. last sentence of today:
He broke away from Michael's grip and slipped into his room before either of them could stop him, shutting the door and locking it firmly.

Ben is bein teh emoz, but Michael and Mary-Cate will soon sort him out. (And then my plot will disappear. What will I do then?)

You could have Mr. Ian Woon turn up dead on the doorstep of one of your characters?

Yup. And bonus points if he's been killed by the traveling shovel of death.

Michael could very well meet with an accident. Ben might have a long-lost brother, but considering his totally average suburban family it's unlikely. His father is dead, and so far no one knows "the truth" because zombies are essentially a new species and no one knows anything about them.

But they're learning. Not very quickly, but...

Ooh! Earlier Ben said this:

He lay awake for hours imagining his future: countless days in this tiny room, until they found something to do with all these shell-shocked ruined people or until they decided that they couldn't afford the liability.

What if 'they' (the guv'ment) do decide they can't afford the liability, especially after the relapse? These people have a virus inside them just waiting to turn them (again) into terrifying killing machines that don't feel pain and don't discriminate. I sense a "quarantine of infected persons and potential carriers" in the works--whether that involves concentration camps, genocide, or shutting them away in a laboratory, I'm not sure.

You are a genius, ma'am, and I am thrilled to have you around. You've got no idea how much more Plot is running around in my head now. <3!

Well, my goal for today is to finish the story. I still have a ball scene and a conversation with God Bob (don't ask) and am at 47,504 words right. It's 1 o'clock in the afternoon so I figure I stand a good chance. Especially considering that last week I wrote about 5k on a Friday afternoon.

Excerpt:

"The thing you suggested back in that other world. The... uhm... marriage thing. I know that you were just joking and feel free to say no, but I would... well, that is I'd like to... You're a good friend in the short time we've known each other. You're not involved in any of the politics in this world. You know me. So I was wondering if..."
Oh boy. Jahnee was going to be pissed. "You want to ask me if I'd consider marrying you," she said. Never had she heard such an awkward sentence and it came from her own mouth.
Monty could only nod. His face was bright red.
"You realize that Jahnee is going to kill you for stealing his adoptive sister away, right? And I'm not going to just sit around and look pretty. Or try to look pretty at least. I don't want to be shut into the palace."

ETA: 50,103 words. Which is just the barebones plot done. Now I get to print it out and start seeing where I want to add scenes, add them and add them to my wordcount. Woohoo!

Congratulations! Even though you're planning to add scenes and move things around, you can relax a bit now that you've passed the 50k :)

Thank you. Oh yeah, it's a bit more relaxed now, though on the other side now I've met the deadline I'm all 'quality!quality!quality!' again.

33,837 total.

I realized today that I love this novel.

Not just tolerate it, not just sticking with it to finish it. I actually love it, and am having tons of fun with it. I'm really excited about that fact. :D

I'm feeling the same way about mine, and in a way I'll be sorry when it's finished (or at least when the first draft is finished).

Just updated my word count for the last time this evening, and it currently stands at 41027 After the chapter that I'm writing is finished there will be four more to go. That's going to take me a fair way past 50k, but as yet I'm not sure how far.

Yay....50k-plus words today. I love my novel; it's fun! Now, I get to finish up the three timelines....1897, 1969 and 2009.

Yet another slow day, but hopefully the last for a while. I've pushed my goal down 5000 words to 55000 words, which will make me feel less pressure about catching up and that might help me get back on top of things.

I wrote 2412 words today which is good. It felt good but I feel the end coming soon and it's kind of making me sad.

My total is now 43,442. I've got a big fight scene coming up and then some wrap up and then it should be done. Not sure how many words it will take to get there.

Constance was leaning against the stone wall in the mausoleum flipping through the previous day's paper. She could find nothing about two dead bodies being found the previous night.

I didn't write many words today, but I'm still ahead of where I need to be.
