Life seems to be full of both beginnings and endings, Nano Writer, both good and bad, though in general, I suspect that most people have more positive experiences with beginnings than ends. After all, the beginning of anything offers the promise of adventure and new horizons to conquer: the first day of school, first kisses, the first page of a new book.
Whereas endings...
The end of things has gotten such poor press over the years: to speak of a catastrophe we say "it's the end of the world," to break off a relationship we say "let's end it," and the last words on the page of our favorite book, "The End."
But where would we be if we only knew one and not the other? We can not move ahead, to grow and mature, if we only know beginnings and we can not come to an end unless we first begin.
22 days ago we eagerly began NaNoWriMo, excited to tell the world our stories. I don't know about you, but I must have written and rewritten the beginning of my novel fifty times over in my head, just waiting for the stroke of midnight on November 1st, to finally - finally - begin writing. It was joy, it was release, it was love.
Now, the end is in sight. For both my novel and the end of this year's NaNoWriMo challenge. This is the beginning of the final week!
Today's word count is 38,333! For some, their writing is complete and their stories are done. For others, they are very close or have kept pace with the daily word count and will finish sometime this week.
And there are still others who are behind. Please do not give up hope! There is still time to catch up and finish your story! Or at least to commit 50K words of your story to paper... Squeeze what you can from morning commute times, lunch hours, slow lectures, kids' nap times, take dinner in a quiet corner and write! Write, Nano Writer, write!
Because, a good beginning deserves a good ending.
How was today's writing? Excerpts? Comments? Questions? It's all good! Keep writing!
