After yesterday’s exercise, you should have a list of of “things” for which you feel some amount of passion. It could be pirates or rampant unemployment or circus elephants. The important thing is that it matters to you. Today you’re going to ask “What if?” or “Why?” or “How?” - whichever fits the item on your list best. Then write down your question(s) and what you think the answer should be.
For example, yesterday I mentioned that “loyalty” was important to me. So I might ask myself: What if the only way a man can prove he is loyal to his country is by betraying his family? How does he live with the consequences? What if instead of his country, it was a gang or a corporation? And instead of his family, it was a lover or a friend or a mentor?
Spend 15 minutes today writing down as many ideas that you can. Read over your list when you’re done. Do any of your “what if” ideas stand out from the others? Need a second opinion? Ask away! And keep writing, Nano Writer!
