Day 7 - 23 days remaining

The human desire to know why is as powerful as the desire
to know what happened next, and it is a desire of a higher order.

— Janet Burroway

Today's word count is 11, 669! And we're coming up on the end of the first week! How's everyone doing? Has your protagonist taken that first important step away from what's comfortable, venturing out into the unknown in pursuit of some overwhelming desire or need?

Hold onto that desire, keep it up front and in your sights as we move into our second week of writing to stave off the infamous NaNoWriMo doldrums, still waters of doubts and don't-wanna's.

Because you can do it Nano Writer!

Questions? Comments? Excerpts to share? So what happens next? It's all good - so keep writing!

It's still day 6 for me, and... and I have no idea where I'm going with this, except apparently my murder victim's nearest neighbors are crazy survivalists. I don't think they did it. I still don't know who killed him, or how, or why, or how my protagonist will discover it.

On the bright side I am actually really liking writing in 1st person past...

I just want to hug everybody! Obama's speech really restored my faith in the possibilities for the future. negl that man can bring tears to my eyes like no one else.

So in that child-like state of hope and belief, I have decided, oh fearless NaNo leader, to channel that into my character and do a flashback where he and Willie first discover the numbered gravestones in Hillside Cemetary. :)

Of course I am waiting on confirmation from my sources that it is possible for an eight-year-old child to bike from the asylum to the cemetary....

I've actually started writing the story as a series of scenes rather than try to piece it all together.

Hope that is okay! :?

You're allowed to write the book however you want, the goal is just 50k :3

It's just like you can pants it or you can go all-out with your outlining or getting your scenes together and stuff until you barely have anything left to write out in November, lol. The goal is the deadline!

Hit 15k! And I spent a couple of hours PLANNING ALL THE THINGS because I absolutely needed to know the exact route my characters are taking to find the werewolves, and by extension, how long it would take. Have been quite generous and given them about 4 1/2 months to do so at a guestimated average of about 5-7 miles a day. Well, I do have a small-and-not-very-fast car, a not-very-fast bull, and two not-very-fit blokes in their 50s. I have all the awesome hero-types! :D

I'm not going to write about every stop they make, but there are some that will get covered, if only because they're important/they might meet someone/I need to show where they're going somehow. Perhaps only the semi-big abandoned cities that have escaped burninating, at least for now.

But hey, I was very kind to them today. I let them find a cart! So now my bull can work as an oxen and pull that cart and things might go a little faster. Yeah! :D

Maybe I'll have a wheel break somewhere out in the arse-end of nowhere. Woo drama! XD /this is what I get for taking the 'ALL THE TINY COUNTRY VILLAGES' route. :D

My character has indeed taken the first step away from the familiar; she's won her first Gym battle and she started the day off by being very deep in the Viridian Forest, looking for an elusive Pikachu (one of only two easily-accessible elctric pokemon in Kanto at this early stage).

Current word count is 22,305, of which 3,386 was written today. I added up my outline total just out of curiousity and saw that it's already 5k in and of itself, so if I did count that I'd be up to about 28k.

I'm running out of outlines, so I have half an hour before I reward myself with some TV, and here's hoping I can get a decent amount done -- thankfully the next scene to write is battle (and scene) heavy, so that should give me some decent wordcount.

I'm boggled! I keep looking at my wordcount and going "...I've got that much and it's only the seventh?" (well, eighth today, but I've not yet written anything). The fight scene on its own should add about 2.5k-3k (my writing tends to go for every 1k of outline, I get 2.5k-3k of story, and the outline for it is just a bit under 1k).

Outlining definitely works for me, and I suspect I'll have to start planning non-fandon NaNos in about May to get all the little details down -- WriteWay is also working excellently for my purposes, I'll just have to remember to take advantage of their 50% off offer before Dec 15th.

I basically blew off yesterday except for like 200 words and I'm finding it hard to recuperate that. I had originally been planning to be around 25k by now. Instead, I'm just below 20k. Hopefully I pick up on the writing curve so I can catch up (or at least hit the word count today!)

ETA: Still not at 25k yet like I was hoping I would get to yesterday when watching the election. But I'm hoping to hit 25k later and I have written almost 4k for today. So I made up for yesterday as far as the daily word count by Nano standards.

Actually, I'm lucky, I got to 7k and I'm feeling way more motivated now! The story is starting to really pick up. Not 10k, but I'm hoping tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday I get up to 10k per day so I can get the word-count part of the story done.

14,662. By the end of tomorrow I'll be two full days ahead. heckyeah.

My characters are in the process of being shoved straight out of the nest. THey'll fly, though there'll be a lot of frantic wing-flailing before that happens. (I'm not actually writing wing-fic, but now I kind of want to.)
