Day 11 - 19 days remaining

Caress your phrase tenderly: it will end by smiling at you.

Today's word count is 18,337, Nano Writer! We're coming up on the 20k mileage marker - is your story still cruising along the interstate/highway/autobahn or have you hit a speed bump and you're waiting for the muse to arrive with a tow truck?

Hey, it happens. Stuff happens. If your word count isn't what you were hoping for today, don't sweat it. Even the best high performance cars break down and need a little TLC to get back on the road again.

So shift into neutral and spend some time enjoying the scenery. Add some detail to a setting that might be a little bare. Write about how your character might spend a day off from chasing monsters. Get out the roadmap and do a little planning for what lies ahead.

What you don't want to do is give into frustration and doubts and fears because even though some days feel like it's all just one long, unending uphill climb, remember the top of the mountain has the best views and after that, it's all downhill to the finish line.

Questions? Comments? Speeding tickets to tell us about? It's all good - so keep writing!

I hit a bit of a speedbump (I always seem to around the 25k-30k mark, it's where most of my NaNo failures have fizzled out -- that seems to be the most I can write without a solid plan) so while I took yesterday off to have some fun, I did have my story in the back of my mind. I realised I had a hanging plot thread which I can write and get some mileage out of (my character bought what she thought was a Dratini, turns out it's a Magikarp and everyone else got scammed the same way -- the more I write and plan, though, the more involved it's getting).

Had some power outages in our house; thankfully I was on my laptop rather than on my desktop computer, so I wasn't affected. I did look for an auto-save feature on WriteWay, so I'll be implementing that tomorrow, just in case.

Total wordcount: 32,128, of which 1,959 was written today. Spent most of the day planning and plotting out so don't have much actual writing to show for it, but these plans should help me for the beginning of next week.

So, I was going to take the weekend off, after my nearly 8k word vomit on Friday. Didn't happen.

I'm now at 27k and I'm forcing myself to take time off, because it's football day and I want to read a book. A real book. With pages. And weight. And the ability to smash a spider if the need arises.

Also, kitten snuggling. Yep. These are my plans today.

Football today was pretty terrible for me, so I'm glad I ended up not watching it, but a day off sounds fabulous. Maybe I should consider one. (I'm three days ahead and petrified of losing that cushion...)

I didn't get the day off. But, I did write during football (yay Bengals!). My brain just wouldn't rest.

18943.

It's been a slow several days, and then yesterday (or the day before? Two days ago? I don't know what a day is anymore. Stupid going to sleep whin it's light out and getting up when it's dark) I had a 5.5k day and just caught up. Looking like I'll be giving 75k a miss this time around, but it's also kind of looking to me like NNWM isn't the best way to work on this particular story? So we'll see. It'll be nice to win, but if not, then I've at least got a good solid start on this story.

I actually did end up getting my last 500 words by filling in scenery and description - I may cut it right back out again but it at least got me to my minimum.

23,357! I am maintaining this "three days ahead" streak. I am maintaining it.

Today I didn't do any writing (fifteen minutes left) because I was doing assignments. I'd been hoping I'd finish the story completely by today... But maybe it was good to take a break, I'll find out tomorrow.
