Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good.

— Voltaire

leaf_of_love2

Today's word count is 8,335 Nano Writer! And something to keep in mind: every word counts - even the ones that might seem too big or too small or just not quite right. Remember that you're writing a rough draft this month - it's not suppose to be perfect - but it needs to be written!

Questions? Comments? Funny or weird typos to share? It's all go odd ;-) So keep writing!

Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half
their greatness goes unnoticed. It is all part of the fairy tale.

— Peter S. Beagle

Today's word count is 6,668! Is your protagonist having a bad time of it yet, Nano Writer? We may want to avoid conflict in real life but for our characters, "sorrows and burdens" are all a part of getting to the "happily ever after" or at least "the end."

And for our Nano Writers living in the US just a quick reminder that DST ends at 2 AM! And you know what that means! A free hour to write! Right? Oh come on guys, it least tell me that you'll think about it... guys...?

Questions? Comments? Sorrows to share? Joyful news? They say that a "shared joy is a double joy; shared sorrow is half a sorrow" so it's all good! Keep writing!

Day 3 - 27 days remaining

When writing a first draft, you should be thinking only
about getting ideas onto paper, to have something that
can be reshaped and refined later on.

— Fred White

business_man2

Today word count is 5K and one! And our first weekend. If you have the time, why not build up your word count and really get into your story? Remember too, your goal this month is to create a first draft - so ignore that delete key and keep the momentum forward and going strong!

Questions! Comments? Word 5,000 and one? It's all good! So keep writing!

The maker of a sentence launches out into the

Today's word count is 3,334! And because it's Friday, let's talk about backing up those words... It's not too early to think about it, Nano Writer! So what's your method of choice? Flash drive? Cloud drive? E-mail? Make it a habit now and you'll never have to worry about losing your work!

Questions? Comments? Excerpts to share? It's all good! So keep writing!

You can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will.

― Stephen King

The word count for today is 1,667! Easy, right? That’s about seven pages of a typed manuscript (following standard format). Of course Your Mileage May Vary and don’t think you have to stop when you hit the day’s quota! This is the time to tap into all that good writer mojo and let yourself go with the flow!

Questions? Comments? First word? It’s all good! So Keep Writing!

I write to give myself strength.
I write to be the characters that
I am not. I write to explore all
the things I'm afraid of.

So this is it, Nano Writer! You are prepared (maybe/mostly/sort of)! You are ready (maybe/mostly/sort of)! There’s nothing to be afraid of right? Your muse and your characters are willing to share their story with you if you are willing to listen and brave enough to stare down the doubts and distracting voices telling you it’s impossible.

Because you can.

But it won’t necessarily be easy. Crossing the 50K finish line will demand much of you: your time, your dedication, your perseverance. But you can do it! And we’ll be here with you every step of the way.

Everyday, all November, we’ll post a countdown and daily word count reminder. Please feel free to reply to these posts to share news of your day’s accomplishments, snippets of writing, questions, challenges, requests or just to say “hi!”

The community itself will be closed to open posting from 11/1 − 11/30 and we thank you sincerely for your understanding as our intent is to minimize the distraction of those members who prefer not to participate in community exchanges once NNWM begins. Nano Writers will be open to posting again on December 1 and remain open throughout the year, as always, until next November.

But for now, Nano Writer, the starting line lies straight ahead! The clock will soon strike midnight and there’s only one thing left to say: Write, Nano Writer, write!

Perhaps the best thing you can still do to prepare for NNWM, Nano Writer, is to dedicate a period of time from your day to write. Resolve to set your alarm and get up early or stay up a little later. Think about writing during your commute to and from work or school or while your kids nap. Even five minutes allocated from a busy day can make a big difference and keep the creative “flow” alive and productive. You CAN do this, Nano Writer!

Time to engage in a little creative visualization, Nano Writer.
You have finished your novel… you’re holding the published
book in your hands… what does that feel like? Got it? Good!
Remember that feeling because you can do this! And it all
starts in two days…

The most solid advice for a writer is this, I think:
Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food
when you eat, and when you sleep really to sleep.
Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all
your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell.
