Day 17 - 13 days remaining

Putting the characters through pain is never a problem
for me. That's where all the interesting stuff happens.
And growth only comes through pain and struggle.
So it's for their own good really.

So Nano Writer, today's word count is 28,333! How is everyone doing today?

For me, I've been struck down by the latest flu bug and apologize for not being around today (and probably for the next couple of days as well). At least I have a fresh perspective on fevers and other modes of illness. And hey, it'll all be for my MC's own good right? ;-)

Excerpts, comments, questions, a bit of purple prose? It's all good!

And as always - keep writing!

sorry to hear about your flu ...

i hope you feel better soon!

busy day for me on other stuff, so I didn't get to put in much time writing ... still I made it a point to spend a little time this evening so I at least got a few hundred words done, including this:

I couldn't wait to kick off my heels. The moonlets seemed happy to see me, so I played with them for a while as I filled D in on the afternoon's meetings. Much to my relief she told me that she had convinced a Kali, Kalliope, Hel, Helen, Aphrodite, and the anomaly to reschedule my afternoon and evening meetings with them, so all I had on my agenda was a brief 5:30 p.m. chat with engineering -- and going out later to Shrine of the Goddess with her and Persephone, if I was up for it.

There was just enough time before the engineering chat to take a shower and change into something more comfortable. As soon as I sat down at my computer the moonlets jumped into my lap and with D sitting there I didn't want to shoo them away so I let them stay. They purred happily throughout the engineering chat. Why is it that cats always like people who don't like cats?

Oh dear, I hope you'll get better very very soon! *hugs*

*sighs* Nothing's working for the moment. I lack time to write. My MC is silent and doesn't want to do anything. My muses seem to have abandoned me a little. And I'm feeling down...
But, I'm not giving up. I'm going to kick my MC's ass to go do something! And my own to write anything, something, every free minute I have
Luckily yesterday's events gave me some inspiration... ^^

I've rounded 42K this morning and plan on adding some more to it. I have ambitions to be crossing the 50K mark before sunday, so I'm a bit busy.

Story-wise I'm also within sight of the end. I'm currently past what is suppsoed to be the dramatic climax thingie and in the resolution-of-things stage. After that another little twist and then the actual rounding everything off. Hopefully I'll be hitting 50K before the actual rounding of and last paragraph and things, because if I do that, I won't have to try and figure out what to do about how to get the last words written. I don't think I'd want to start on the re-write at this sort of break-neck speed. :)

Onwards and upwards!

Here's hoping you're feeling better and up to putting your MC through terror and pain! Maybe a little happiness, too?

As for my first novel, (my second has kind of fallen into a deep pit and won't grab my hand) it's taken on a life of its own. I'm just over 45k words and it's just gotten to the good bits. It's like the story is just beginning but all the build up was needed, all the hurt and pain in the beginning made my character who she is in the rest of the story --flashbacks just wouldn't have worked. I'm hoping to make up for the massive build up by writing another 50k. I'm aiming for 100k before this story is finished, even if it's not all completed in November.

Aww, not the flu bug! Get better soon.

As for me, I killed off my MC yesterday.

Well, all right - I exiled him, retroactively from the start of the book. His wife is now the protagonist, since she's an actual person with hopes and dreams and fears and an irrational desire for revenge on her son's killers, whereas he was extremely dull.

Also, Socrates turned up. And some gods. Neither of these was planned.

Get better soon!

As for me: none of my characters is acting the way I want them to act. I mean, I suddenly have a vigilante running around although he was never supposed to do that, I'm dealing with a Welsh sorceress although I didn't want to deal with magic at all, and my story outline is laughing at me because it's still useless.

At least the word count looks nice: 46,663 I'm definitely making the 50K, but my story is still far, far, far aways from the end. *sighs*

Probably, there will be a genocide taking place soon. I'm gonna kill off all my MCs because they have their own mind. Gee, half of them are US-American; they're not allowed to think themselves. *is grumpy*

Obligatory apology to US people: I know you think — I'm just being elisist European tonight, because my characters mock me. *pouts*

30,139!

I've started using Write or Die yesterday and today, and the words I'm getting feel sloppier, but there are more of them and I'm getting through them faster, so that'll do for a first draft. ^^;

Hope you feel better soon!

Aw, I hope you feel better soon! And hey, looking at it as research is a great idea (although I think I might feel bad for your MC too!). Anyway, I'm up to 33079, helped in large part by the fact that two of my characters decided to sit down and talk things out. I knew they needed to have a conversation about where they stood given recent events, I just thought it would be like pulling teeth to actually get them to have it. But hey, I'm not complaining!

Which is not as many as I'd like but enough to work for now. Hoping to clear 32000 tomorrow. I think it's really funny how 1000 words used to seem, well...impossible.

Hope you feel better quickly.
